“Delivering Enthusiasm through
Power of Sports”
—Sports Business That Only
CBC Can Offer
CBC Group will pursue new themes with an eye towards the next future while continuing to proceed with the trading business it has cultivated over its 100-year history in areas such as pharmaceuticals, foods and healthcare based on chemical products. One of them is the sports business. In the United States, the sports business is called a “dream job,” making it one of the most popular occupations with high rewards and satisfaction. On the other hand, the market is still in the process of growth in Japan. Its social recognition is low compared to the high level of competition and the wage level of those involved is not high enough. Sports have a great power that moves people's hearts and connects people. We aim to create a new impact on society in the field of sports, which is distinct from the “product” business CBC has been operating, by generating enthusiasm and resonance among people. With this goal in mind, we hope to expand our business by utilizing our network of 50 offices in approximately 20 countries around the world and contribute to raising the level of the sports industry by bringing in investment and circulating funds.
We are currently building new business models for the sports and entertainment industry, and developing technology-based products and planning services. Specifically, we are developing free viewpoint and multi-angle services using video distribution technology, wearable devices utilizing GPS, AI analysis cameras, performance analysis using motion analysis, and digital platforms for player transfers. In these sports tech areas, we are also working with professional sports teams as co-creation partners to create new business value. The sports business is an unprecedented initiative within the company, it has been a series of hardships to start up a business from scratch. However, we are steadily gaining recognition thanks to our continuous efforts such as signing sponsorships, achieving business results, and promoting advertising and media coverage. Going forward, we will continue to take on challenges that only we can take on, one at a time, in the arena of sports, where enthusiasm and resonance are created.
Diamonds have long fascinated people as a symbol of eternal brilliance. On the other hand, there are various issues behind their beautiful brilliance such as environmental destruction caused by the mining process and poor working conditions, as natural diamonds are produced deep underground. In this context, synthetic diamonds known as “Lab Grown Diamonds” are attracting attention. Because the formation process of natural diamonds, which takes many years to produce, is artificially replicated, it can be produced in a shorter period of time and does not involve harsh mining work or environmental destruction. This is truly an ethical diamond that is friendly to both people and nature. India, which is one of CBC Group's key global locations, is one of the world's leading diamond-processing regions. CBC India is leveraging the experience it has accumulated in the fields of surveillance cameras and lenses to develop lenses used to inspect Lab Grown Diamonds.
India is now the world’s most populous country and has emerged as one of the world's major economic powers along with the United States and China. India’s manufacturing industry centered on electronic components and semiconductors has made remarkable progress under the country’s “Make in India” manufacturing promotion initiative. CBC India plans to apply the technology it has developed in the artificial diamond business to growth areas other than jewelry such as the manufacturing of substrates for diamond semiconductors, which are considered the next generation of semiconductors. There is no business model of a “shosha” overseas. That is why we are required not only to simply procure and sell products but also to pursue high-value-added functions and services that meet customer needs. Entrepreneurship to create new value that meets market demands is also required of us. We will continue to take on the challenge of creating new value beyond trading in India, a country experiencing remarkable economic growth.
Eliminating “Talent Loss” and Creating a Society where Everyone Can Develop Their Career
If 30% of the company’s valuable employees were to disappear one day, would the company be able to maintain the same productivity and continue to grow? Business may stagnate and its survival may even be in jeopardy. Our country, Japan, is facing a similar crisis. In 2070, some 50 years from now, Japan’s total population is projected to be approximately 87 million, about 70% less than it was in 2020 (126.15 million). With the steady decline of the working population, which supports the economy, the key to sustainable growth of companies is not just to strengthen recruitment but also to maximize the “human resources” they have now. With the prospect of companies being required to disclose the ratio of their female managers, it is especially essential to create a workplace where diverse human resources can thrive including the promotion of the active participation of women. CareerBloom was established to draw out the power of workers and confront the social issue of workforce shortages. CBC and CareerBloom formed a partnership to take on new challenges in the fields of human resource development and revitalization.

For example, many women give up their careers as they get older because of their vague anxieties about the future, even though they have the desire and ability to work. The mission of CareerBloom is to eliminate this “talent loss” and create a society in which everyone, regardless of age, gender or nationality, can flourish in their careers. One of the actions to achieve this goal is an initiative to achieve a 30% female executive ratio by 2030. Various businesses are currently being developed focusing on women in the middle management generation, ranging from providing consulting to corporations and opening a membership information website for individuals to developing and supporting human resources. An increase in the number of active human resources means an increase in the total number of working people, which in turn leads to an increase in the productivity of Japan as a whole. To achieve this, it is essential that we take action ourselves and raise the temperature of society, rather than waiting for society to change. CBC will work hand in hand with CareerBloom to deepen discussions on this topic in our own company and do what we can to expand sustainable working styles that transcend age and gender.
